Postdocs and potential students in macro energy systems

Our research group is working to improve the analytical understanding of the global energy system in transition to one that is highly decarbonized in terms of both technology as well as the social systems in which that technology operates. Area of interrogation of complex system dynamics includes the mechanisms that drive change, the capacity of the system to absorb change, and the response of the system to policy interventions to shape the transition and manage impacts.

Topics of particular relevance for the position include technoeconomic analysis of electrification of transportation, and heating in buildings and industry/agriculture in cold climates, dynamics of contraction of natural gas and oil infrastructure and the overlap with new infrastructure required, net zero electricity portfolios, and effectiveness/efficiency of policy design for new technology adoption.

Qualifications include familiarity with as well as genuine curiosity about energy systems, excellent analytical/quantitative and communication skills, and a desire to work with a diverse group of collaborators on interdisciplinary questions. Previous degrees may include physics, engineering, or other fields with evidence of significant analytical experience.
